West Africa Cruises: Banjul To Banjul – Harmony V

From the ship, take motor pirogues to reach Tendaba, located on the South Bank in the Lower River Division, the starting point for our morning optional excursion.

This small fishing village of approximately 600 Muslim inhabitants is primarily engaged in fishing. Walk through to Batelling, a village at the entrance to Kiang West National Park, which boasts over 250 bird species, Guinea baboons, bushbuck, warthogs, Senegal bushbaby, and marsh mongoose. After a refreshing stop, board an open safari truck back to Tendaba, passing local villages for an impression of Gambian life. In the afternoon, take motor pirogues for the Tendaba optional excursion to the Bao Bolong Wetland Reserve, across from Kiang West National Park. This reserve features six major creeks, offering excellent birding and boating opportunities.

Depart Tendaba early morning and sail upstream on the Gambia River, arriving in Kuntaur by early afternoon.

Join a 3-hour optional excursion on a motor pirogue to Baboon Island, part of the Gambia National Park. A local ranger will provide information about the park's flora and fauna. Observe the Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Project and possibly see hippos, crocodiles, and various monkey species. Return to Kuntaur for a performance by the "Kankurang" and a local dance group.

Join an optional bus excursion to the ferry station of Janjanbureh. Take a short ferry ride across the Gambia River to Janjanbureh and visit one of the oldest towns in The Gambia, formerly known as Georgetown. See the governor's residence, the market, and the Methodist church with its school.

Return to Lamin Koto to visit a new school building. Stop at the Wassu stone circles, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Sail downstream to Kaur in the afternoon, a small fishing village on the banks of the Gambia River. Explore the village in the evening before sailing downstream towards Banjul.

Enjoy a farewell dinner.

Anchor at St. James Island, an important slave trading post and now a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Join an optional walking tour to learn about the history of James Island and explore the island. After lunch, depart for Banjul, arriving around 4 pm. Sail out of the Gambia estuary into the Atlantic Ocean in the evening, heading north towards Dakar. Enjoy Gambian Night with a Kora instrument concert.

Overnight at sea to Dakar.

Arrive in Dakar early morning. After breakfast, join an optional excursion to Goree Island and a Dakar city tour, exploring the history of slave trading and its transformation into modern African culture. Enjoy lunch outside the ship and return in the late afternoon. Set sail southward towards the Saloum River Delta after dinner.

Overnight at sea, cruising south along the coast.

Arrive at the Sine-Saloum Delta, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and an Important Birding Area. Join an optional excursion to the fishing village of Djiffer and the clam shell island village of Joal Fadiouth. In the afternoon, depart Senegal and the Saloum Delta, sailing south to reach Banjul.

Enjoy Fishermen Night with an overnight stay in Banjul.

Upon confirmation of reservation a 300,00 EUR (per person) non-refundable deposit is required and balance payment to be paid 60 days before departure.

In case the booking is made less than 60 days before arrival, the total cruise price should be paid.

• 35% of the total cruise rate, 35 – 22 days prior to the cruise
